Christmas memorial service

Published: 10/11/2021

COPELAND Borough Council is hosting an online Christmas memorial service next month.

The special virtual service will be available online from December 17 until the new year, to enable as many people as possible to see it without having to attend an event in person.

Residents can submit the names of their loved ones to be part of a rolling on-screen tribute as part of the service.

During this time, it will also be possible to write a personal message to be hung on a Christmas tree in the foyer of the main crematorium building.

Copeland's portfolio holder for bereavement services, Coun Steve Morgan, said: "Our virtual service proved incredibly popular last year, so we have continued it so that everyone can participate. It will remain online until the new year, so as many people as possible have the chance to watch it in their own time.

"I'd encourage residents, if they wish, to submit the name of a family member for inclusion. Many people have found this moving and a great comfort."

Names for inclusion in the on-screen tribute should be submitted by December 6. This can be done by emailing distingtonhalladmin@copeland.gov.uk or calling 01946 598305.

From December 17, crematorium staff are also offering small herb posies for people to take home and use over Christmas to remember someone. These will be in the Chapel of Remembrance.

Please note, the Christmas Memorial Service will be a recorded service which will then be available online. It is not possible to attend the service in person.
