Hand crafted treats on offer at town market

Published: 17/08/2021

AN ARRAY of beautiful hand crafted goods and delicious home made foods is on offer in Whitehaven this weekend.

Copeland Council's Bakers and Makers' market is this Saturday, from 10am until 3pm, in the town's Market Place.

There will be at least 20 stalls selling cakes, crafts, clothes, wax melts, jewellery and other goods.

The idea for the Bakers and Makers market came from Whitehaven businesswoman Lara Schwab, who owns Little Whims gift shop. She wanted to create an outlet for the many small-scale crafters and bakers in Copeland.

The event follows hot on the heels of the council's incredibly successful monthly Young Entrepreneurs' market - but the Bakers and Makers' market is open to sellers of all ages.

Copeland Council's Business Liaison Officer, Jenny Brumby, said: "The markets bring in people who want to shop for something a little different, in a bustling market atmosphere.

"But they also provide a significant boost for existing town centre businesses, who benefit from the increased footfall.

"This Bakers and Makers' market will see an array of stalls selling quality, local, goods, including delicious food. I'd encourage people to come along and enjoy the market, the harbour and all our great local businesses"

Whitehaven's Market Place and James Street will be closed to traffic during the market. For more information about the Bakers and Makers' Market,  or the monthly Young Entrepreneurs' markets,  contact Jenny.brumby@Copeland.gov.uk.
