Whitehaven to host youth market

Published: 09/08/2021

TWENTY TWO young entrepreneurs will be setting out their stall at Whitehaven’s youth market on Saturday.

Copeland Council’s third Young Entrepreneurs Market will be held on King Street.

The market – open between 10am and 3pm – has seen the number of young stallholders almost double from the first instalment, in June.

Local storyteller Debbie Haine and talented young singers will be entertaining the crowd.

Young entrepreneurs aged 25 and under are eligible for free pitches, and stallholders will be selling everything from homemade candles, crafts, cakes and artisan bread, to clothing, gifts and jewellery.

Alongside the market, the young entrepreneurs will get the chance to join the Council’s mentorship programme.

The business minded young residents will receive one-to-one mentorship from experienced professionals and a bespoke one-day course covering business viability, networking, management skills and more. They will also receive a £300 grant to support their business idea.

Jenny Brumby, Copeland Council’s Business Liaison Officer, said: “There’s never been a better time to visit our Young Entrepreneurs Market.

“The event is growing each month and we’ll soon be purchasing even more new stalls to house all the young people that want to be part of the events.

"The produce is outstanding and the young people will now also get the chance to be part of our mentorship programme to push their business to the next level.

“There’ll be something for everyone at Saturday’s market and I’d urge residents to come and support their local young entrepreneurs.”

Copeland Council carried out a public survey into its future market offering last year and attracted over 600 responses. The Young Entrepreneurs Market is first of many new concepts to emerge from the public consultation.
