Copeland residents urged to register to vote

Published: 28/06/2021

RESIDENTS in Copeland are being urged to ensure they are registered to vote in upcoming elections.

Copeland Council is this week starting its annual canvass, in order for the council to keeps its electoral register up to date - and to ensure those who are not registered have the opportunity to do so.

The annual event asks people to confirm their details, or make any changes, so that they can be included on the register, ahead of local elections in May 2022.

As per last year, the council will be using electronic means of communication, such as email and text messaging, to simplify the process. Letters will be sent to those who the council does not hold email or mobile numbers for.

A spokesman for Copeland Council said: "This year’s canvass, which we have to carry out by law, is once again taking place during a challenging public health situation.

"We are working to ensure that we take account of public health guidelines, including the continued importance of social distancing. We would encourage all residents who are able to respond online to do so, by telephone or text message wherever possible."
