Annual electoral canvass to begin

Published: 29/06/2020

COPELAND residents are being urged to ensure their voter registration details are up to date.

The council is beginning its annual canvass this week, in which every household will be contacted to ensure the details held are correct and eligible residents are included on the register in order to vote in upcoming elections.

This year, as part of the Government’s canvass reform programme, the council will be using data and electronic communication, such as email and text messaging, to simplify the process. Residents may therefore receive an email, text message or letter from Copeland Council, asking them to check on those registered and inform the council of any changes.

Despite the restrictions imposed by Covid-19, the canvass must take place by law, therefore residents are asked to ensure they respond online, by telephone or text message whenever possible.

Further details on the process and how to respond can be found at https://www.copeland.gov.uk/electoral-registration-annual-canvass-2020
