First catering contract for Castle Park

Published: 03/03/2020

A BUSY Cumbrian park is hoping to add food to its attractions this spring.

Castle Park in Whitehaven town centre is a popular area for families and walkers and for the first time Copeland Borough Council is offering a catering pitch, located next to the play area, so people can enjoy a drink, snack or meal as they relax.

The park has a large adventure play ground, lots of flat, lawned space for games, and is criss-crossed by paths leading to and from town. There are also mature wooded areas. Dog walkers use the park and it is directly opposite a major supermarket and sports centre, with a bus stop right at the gate, so footfall is high, particularly in the summer months.

Portfolio holder for Open Spaces, Coun Steve Morgan, said: "This is a wonderful town centre park and for the first time in recent history we are hoping to have a food outlet on-site during the year. The park is really well-used by families because of the play area and the large open space, perfect for children to run around.

"It's also used by workers at lunchtimes, parent and toddler groups, shoppers and walkers. We hope the added attraction of a food outlet will bring even more people in to this lovely park."

The catering licence, currently out to tender, runs from March 30 for one year. Anyone interested in finding out more about the contract should contact the council's property department at info@copeland.gov.uk or call 01946 598300.
