Public meetings into funding opportunities

Published: 09/01/2020

TWO public information sessions are being held into potential funding opportunities for Millom and Cleator Moor.

Copeland Council has been invited by the Government to bid for up to £25million for each town from the national Towns Fund pot, and is creating local boards for Millom and Cleator Moor to help steer the bids.

The council has organised the meetings to share information on the fund and the bidding process, and to engage with residents, businesses and community representatives. All are welcome.

The sessions will be held on:

  • Thursday, January 16, Cleator Moor Civic Hall, 5.30pm to 7pm
  • Wednesday, January 22, Pensioners’ Hall, Mainsgate Road, Millom, 5.30pm to 7pm.

Mike Starkie, Mayor of Copeland, said: “We’re working hard behind the scenes with community representatives since being invited to bid for this funding in September.

“These sessions are now the chance for the wider community to receive an update of where we’re up to in the process – and what comes next – and to give us their feedback and let us know were their priorities lie.

“I’d encourage all residents to attend to help shape the future of their own communities.”

** Attendees at the Millom event are asked to avoid parking outside residents’ homes in the vicinity of the Pensioners’ Hall.
