Crematorium to hold Awareness Week service

Published: 24/09/2019

A SPECIAL event is being held at Distington Hall Crematorium to mark Baby Loss Awareness Week.

The event, on Tuesday, October 15 (7pm to 8pm), will give parents, family members and friends the chance commemorate the all-too-brief lives of their babies.

During a short memorial service at 7pm, those attending will be given the opportunity to light a candle as part of the global ‘Wave of Light’ which unites people across the world in honour of those babies lost. A tree will also be available in the crematorium’s foyer to which ribbons and messages can be attached.

Carla Christian, the event’s organiser, said: “We have held services at the crematorium at Christmas, Mother’s Day and Father’s Day, and all were well received.

“This one will be slightly different however. Following on from the short memorial service, there will be a number of support groups and charities on hand to provide help and information in a friendly and informal environment. All are welcome to stay for refreshments and a chat.”

Visitors will have the chance to attach a ribbon or message to the tree in the crematorium’s foyer throughout the whole of Baby Loss Awareness Week (October 9 to 15).

Also to mark Baby Loss Awareness Week, Copeland Council will be lighting up Whitehaven Candlestick and Distington Hall Crematorium in blue and pink.
