Council set to tackle borough’s pests

Published: 04/01/2019

COPELAND council has launched a new pest control service.

A new commercial service is being offered to residents of Copeland that provides advice and chargeable treatments for cockroaches, bed bugs and fleas, which are all considered a public health risk.

The service will also see prevention advice and rat treatment provided, initially free of charge, to domestic properties

The Council’s Environmental Health team has been dealing with complaints of rats for several years now and the introduction of this service means that the team can now tackle complaints through to the prevention and treatment stage.

A new webpage has also been created to offer advice on bedbugs, fleas, rats, mice and wasps.

The service is also being rolled out to the borough’s businesses, although the treatment of rats will be chargeable to commercial premises.

Councillor Allan Holliday, Portfolio Holder for Environmental Health, said: “It’s fantastic to be able to offer this new service.

“We receive pest complaints week on week and we will now be able to offer residents and businesses treatment options as well as advice.

“This is a great move forward for the service and offers the full package to any of our residents who may experience any issues with pests in their homes.

“The borough’s businesses can also benefit from the new service; our team can offer advice and prevention techniques as well as treatment options.

“It’s great to see this Council taking another step in ensuring the borough is kept safe and tidy for all our residents and visitors.”
