Universal Credit rolled out to South Copeland

Published: 30/11/2018

FULL service Universal Credit is being rolled out to South Copeland residents.

On December 5 full service Universal Credit will be rolled out to residents in South Copeland.  Universal Credit replaces the following legacy benefits:

  • Child Tax Credit
  • Housing Benefit
  • Income Support
  • Jobseeker’s Allowance (JSA)
  • Employment and Support Allowance (ESA)
  • Working Tax Credit

This means that anyone who needs to make a new claim for any of these legacy benefits, will have to make a claim for Universal Credit. Anyone currently being paid any of the legacy benefits will continue to receive them until there is a specific change in their circumstances or otherwise told by the Department of Work and Pensions.

Residents claiming Universal Credit will be paid monthly, in a change from some previous legacy payments which were made either weekly or fortnightly.

Residents elsewhere in the borough were transferred to the Universal Credit model in 2016.

Advice, personal budgeting and digital support are provided to those in receipt of Universal Credit by Copeland Borough Council, and its partners Copeland Citizens Advice and the Phoenix Enterprise Centre.

To access these services and for more information around Universal Credit contact your Department of Work and Pensions (DWP) work coach at your local Jobcentre Plus office.

You can contact the council’s customer service team on 01946 598300 or at info@copeland.gov.uk.
