New service for bereaved families

Published: 22/05/2018

BEREAVED families can now pay tribute to their loved ones with a special audio-visual service at Distington Crematorium.

Copeland Borough Council has invested in a system which allows music, photographs and videos to be played on screens during the funeral service.

Copeland's Portfolio Holder for Customers and Communities, Coun Mark Holliday, said: "We are pleased to be able to offer this extra service. Lots of people feel that a rolling selection of treasured images portrays the essence of the deceased person. It allows people to remember special events, or times in the person's life."

The service can also be live-streamed through a website for those unable to get to the crematorium, and is available to take home on a USB stick afterwards. "This is especially useful for people who have friends and family too far away, or perhaps too infirm, to get to the service itself," said Coun Holliday.

The images are displayed on two large screens in the chapel.

Coun Holliday added: "If people don't want to use images, they can simply have their own selection of music played automatically during certain points in the service."

Anyone who is interested in knowing more about this service, or seeing a demonstration, should call Copeland Council's Bereavement Services team on 01946 830561 or email distingtonhalladmin@copeland.gov.uk.
