New alarm regulations on agenda for Landlords'

Published: 02/10/2015

New regulations affecting landlords were discussed at a forum run by Copeland Borough Council for property owners in the borough.

The regular landlords’ forum is a way for the council to share advice, changes in legislation and the council’s own policies.

Copeland’s Director of Customer and Community Services, Julie Betteridge, said: “We had a really constructive meeting. An officer from the fire service attended to discuss the new regulations regarding smoke and carbon monoxide alarms, which came into effect on October 1.

“Other discussions centred around housing benefit, Universal Credit, our housing strategy and homelessness. The forum is really useful, as there are always new developments to share, and it’s an easy way for landlords to keep up to date, as well as network with each other.”

The next forum will be held in early 2016. Any landlords who would like to attend, or find out more, should contact housing manager Debra Cochrane on 01946 598427.
