Preparing cemeteries for spring

Printer-friendly versionPDF version

Release date: 17 Feb 2015. For immediate release

All Copeland cemeteries including Whitehaven, Hensingham, Millom, Nether Wasdale and Beckermet will be receiving maintenance over the next few weeks in order to prepare the grounds for spring. This work is to ensure a high and consistent level of upkeep.

As part of this work Copeland Borough Council will be removing Christmas wreaths and decorations from all their cemeteries by 2 March 2015.

Coun Peter Kane, portfolio holder for parks and open spaces, said: “It is important that wreaths and decorations are removed in order to allow groundkeepers to maintain the grounds to a high standard.

“Copeland Borough Council understands that some residents may want to retrieve any wreaths or decorations personally, so as a result we would like to inform residents to take action before 2 March.”
