Wellbeing festival to be held in Whitehaven

Published: 16/08/2021

RESIDENTS are invited to improve their wellbeing at a festival in Whitehaven this summer.

Twenty eight organisations are coming together to provide advice guidance and activities to improve people’s health and wellbeing.

The event will be held on Wednesday, August 25, from 10am to 3pm, at Whitehaven Rugby League Club, Coach Road.

The event is free and there will be professionals offering advice, workshops and activities for all ages.

Workshops will focus on:

  • Suicide awareness
  • Mindfulness, assertiveness and keeping yourself well
  • Advice for over 18s who are unemployed
  • Energy advice and how to keep your home cosy this winter

The festival is being hosted by Copeland Council’s Social Prescribing team in partnership with Cumbria County Council, the Social Prescribing NHS Copeland Locality team and Active Cumbria.

Jan Fotheringham, Social Prescribing Community Support Worker, Copeland Borough Council, said: “We have some fantastic organisations offering a wealth of help and support to our residents and we can’t wait to showcase the amazing work they do.

“Social prescribing helps people improve their health and wellbeing, in a non-medical way, by connecting them with a range of groups, activities and services.

“Being active, engaging with others, learning something new and getting involved in the world around you can improve your health and wellbeing.

“Many people will have experienced some kind of issue during the pandemic. Now is the time to connect to a service that can provide much needed support.

“This event provides an opportunity for residents to meet new people, have a great day out and find out what’s on offer in the Copeland community.”
