Copeland Strategic Housing Land Availability Assessment (SHLAA)

As part of plan preparation the Council are carrying out a SHLAA which is the first stage in identifying a sufficient supply and mix of housing sites taking into account their availability, suitability and likely economic viability for the plan period to 2035.   The SHLAA 2019/20 will serve to support the Local Plan by demonstrating how the housing requirement identified in the Strategic Housing Market Assessment and Objectively Identified Need (SHMA 2019) document can be delivered.

The Strategic Housing Land Availability Assessment (SHLAA) is the first stage in identifying a sufficient supply and mix of housing sites taking into account their availability, suitability and likely economic viability for the plan period to 2035.  The SHLAA 2019/20 will serve to support the Local Plan by demonstrating how the housing requirement identified in the 2019 Strategic Housing Market Assessment and Objectively Identified Need (SHMA) can be delivered.

The Draft SHLAA will be produced prior to, or alongside, public consultation of the Local Plan Preferred Options.  In the interim the Council has produced an Interim SHLAA document which contains a list and map of all sites submitted prior to the latest call for sites which ended on January 2020. It also identifies sites excluded at this stage from further assessment.   Sites can also be viewed at the following web mapping link. The Interim SHLAA document also identifies the methodology that will be used for assessing sites over following months. This methodology has been developed through a SHLAA workshop and engagement with developers, stakeholders and other interested parties.
