Copeland Strategic Housing Land Availability Assessment (SHLAA)
The Council is currently in the process of producing a single Local Plan for the period 2017 to 2035. It is anticipated that an emerging plan paper will go out for a 6 week period of public consultation during autumn 2019.
As part of plan preparation the Council are carrying out a SHLAA which is the first stage in identifying a sufficient supply and mix of housing sites taking into account their availability, suitability and likely economic viability for the plan period to 2035. The SHLAA 2019 will serve to support the Local Plan by demonstrating how the housing requirement identified in the 2019 Strategic Housing Market Assessment and Objectively Identified Need (SHMA) can be delivered.
To assist with site assessments the Council has produced a Draft SHLAA Methodology that applies the advice of National Policy. Prior to finalising the methodology and formally assessing sites, the Council is seeking the views of developers, neighbouring planning authorities, relevant stake holders and other interested parties to identify an agreed understanding for assessing sites through this process. You can make comment by completing the SHLAA Draft Methodology Questionnaire and return it the Council by no later 18th October 2019.
