On May 22 2014 there was a referendum on whether there should be an elected Mayor in Copeland.
Voters were asked how they would like Copeland Borough council to be run:
(1) By a leader who is an elected councillor chosen by a vote of the other elected councillors, or
(2) By a mayor who is elected by voters (this would be a change from how the council had been run in the past.)
The electorate voted in favour of having a Directly Elected Mayor. This means there will be an election for that role on May 7 2015.
We will put more information on this website and in the media as the election draws closer.
