Finance

  1. Help shape our budget decisions

Members of the public were invited to give feedback on our corporate plan and financial strategy as part of our budget consultation.

Government grants, which used to make up a significant proportion of our income, have been reducing each year.

We need to find around £4 million over the next four years to keep supporting statutory services and to fund investment in our plans for the borough.

Legal and licensing

  1. Statment of licensing policy

This is our revised gambling policy.

Under the Gambling Act 2005, a new regime for regulating gambling and betting was introduced throughout the United Kingdom from 1 September 2007.  Apart from the National Lottery and spread betting, gambling and betting is regulated by the Gambling Commission, whose duties include licensing the operators and individuals involved in providing gambling and betting facilities.

Copeland Borough Council has a duty under the Act to licence premises where gambling is to take place and to licence certain other activities (such as registering small society lotteries).  This document sets out how we intend to approach this task.

Energy and nuclear

  1. GDF consultation response

The Department of Energy and Climate Change consulted during Autumn 2013 on a proposed new process for finding a location to site a geological disposal facility for the country's higher activity radiaoctive waste.

The Copeland Borough Council consultation response was developed following a members’ workshop where all councillors were invited to have their say on the lessons learned from the previous Managing Radioactive Waste Safely process, and the proposals outlined in the consultation document.

The detail of this response was delegated for sign off to the Leader of the Council and the Leader of the Opposition groups and the Chief Executive, to ensure it represented an accurate reflection of the views of members from the workshop.

The response was submitted on Wednesday 4 December 2013.
