Tired of high energy bills? Then join the Copeland Big Switch!
A free scheme to help residents save money on their energy bills has been launched by Copeland Council and iChoosr.
The Copeland Big Switch returns following two successful campaigns earlier this year, in which a high number of householders saved large amounts on their bills.
The scheme is open now and involves the organisers creating a large group of customers interested in cheaper tariffs, who then offer their custom as a group to the energy firm offering the best deal. It runs as a reverse auction - energy suppliers compete and bid for the custom of all those registered. The more people registered, the better the tariff will be.
All a resident has to do is register using their latest energy bills, and they will receive a personalised offer revealing how much money could be saved. There is no obligation to switch.
One resident who switched in the previous campaign was Muriel O'Toole, from Egremont. She saved £30 per month on her gas and electric bills, and said: "I'm delighted to have saved this money, and many thanks to Copeland Council for your assistance with this change."
How do I register?
It’s easy, quick and free to do. You can register by clicking onto the link on this page. All you will need is basic contact details and information from your energy bill.
If you can not register online, you can visit in person at our Council offices in Market Hall Whitehaven, St George street Millom and they will be happy to help you complete registration.
You need to register by midnight on October 9 to take part in the scheme.
Can I register if I am not a home owner?
Yes, if you are renting a property and the energy bill is in your name, you can register for this scheme.
I registered before but didn’t switch, do I have to do this again?
Yes. The previous schemes have now closed and you will need to register again. You will be contacted by iChoosr who will prompt you to re register - just by the click of a button. You do not have to enter all your details again.
How does the scheme work?
The power of collective switching means by coming together as a group, Copeland residents can get a great deal for their energy – the more people register the better the offer.
An auction will be held on October 10 where energy suppliers compete to provide their best offers. The supplier that provides the lowest tariff wins.
How and when will I receive my tariff offer?
You will receive a personal offer via iChoosr by email or post from October 23. If you need more guidance on the offer, iChoosr have a helpdesk to help you with your decision (see the iChoosr website for more details).
Do I have to accept the offer?
No. There is no obligation to switch at all.
What do I have to do if I decide to switch?
Nothing – iChoosr do all the work for you.
