Copeland is located on the West Coast of Cumbria and is experiencing a challenging mix of industrial growth, infrastructure needs and social and economic inclusion issues.
We are a small District Council led by an Independent Elected Mayor with a corporate strategy focused on “working smarter” to ensure Copeland is a better place for its residents to live and work and for others to visit, invest and do business.
Copeland Borough Council has refreshed its Support Services functions. We want to make it as simple as possible for our customers to access our services. We are targeting our resources and services to be commercially focussed and provide value for money.
We are introducing a range of Modern Apprenticeship Opportunities across our functions and are looking for individuals who are keen to learn, passionate about public services and who have a professional attitude to work.
In collaboration with Lakes College you will have the opportunity to gain experience in work and at the same time gain a professional qualification. Each programme will start in October 2017 and will run to March 2019.
Salary: £16,302 per year
Working and Training Hours: 37 per week
Annual Leave: 24 days a year plus bank holidays

The Closing Date for all applications is Friday 15th September 2017.
Successful applicants will be required to attend literacy and numeracy assessment during week commencing 27th September and will also attend an interview preparation activity.
Interviews will be held on 6th October 2017.

Janice Carrol, Waste and Enforcement Manager, who has been with us for over 27 years, said: “The organisation has been really supportive in developing me as an individual. Over the years I’ve grown from a shy admin assistant into a confident manager.”
Les Finlay, Building Control Surveyor who is spending his 29th year at the Council, said: “Copeland is a great place to work and the proof really is in the pudding - I’m still here.”
Lizzie Skelton, Project Officer who has over 10 years’ service, said: “I’ve worked at Copeland for a long time now and I don’t think I’ll ever leave.”
Louise Coid, Emergency Planning/Community Safety Officer has been with the council for 24 years, said: “Copeland have really supported my career, funding all my training and encouraging me to progress.”
Joanne Fisher, Principal Waste Officer, joined the Council over 16 years ago, she said: “There’s a real sense of family in the team and no two days are the same.”
