Your chance to help shape borough's future

Published: 06/10/2017

COPELAND residents have the chance to help shape the future of the borough as part of a newly-launched consultation.

Members of the public are invited to give their views to Copeland Council on a host of strategic issues including housing, employment and wind energy, and the type of locations that may be suitable for each.

The Council has launched the consultation as it reviews its Local Plan, a document which forms the development framework for the borough and guides decision-makers. This ‘issues and options’ is the first stage and will play a key part in the production of the document which, once adopted, will be in place until 2035.

Issues under consultation include the number of new-build homes the Council should be aiming for, the locations and boundaries in which development should take place, and the allocation of sites for employment purposes.

Mike Starkie, Mayor of Copeland, said: “We have high ambitions for growth and opportunity here in Copeland, and the Local Plan is the fundamental document that will shape the future of the borough.

“It’s vitally important that people get involved at this ‘issues and options' stage; it’s your chance to have your say on how Copeland’s towns and villages develop over the next decade.”

The consultation opens on Monday, October 9 and runs until Friday, November 17 and is available to view at www.copeland.gov.uk and in Council offices and libraries in the borough.
