Copeland Council attends national nuclear event

Published: 12/07/2017

REPRESENTATIVES of Copeland Council have joined other local authorities proposed to host nuclear new-build at a national gathering.

Councillor David Moore, Portfolio Holder for Nuclear, joined members of the Council’s nuclear team at the recent New Nuclear Local Authorities Group (NNLAG) meeting in Somerset.

Including 15 local authorities from across the UK, the NNLAG’s aim is to share knowledge, information and best practice regarding the process of developing new nuclear power stations from a local authority perspective.

Coun Moore said: “Although there is a review in NuGen’s plans for Moorside, the in-depth work behind-the-scenes at Copeland to prepare for the development continues.

“We are delighted to be part of NNLAG; we learn a great deal from it and are able to share our own unique experiences.

“It is important that local authorities continue to work together in sharing best practice and expertise.”

Copeland Council hosted the annual NNLAG conference at Summergrove Halls in March.
