Free Canine Healthchecks

Published: 03/06/2015

Wednesday 3 June 2015.  For immediate release

COPELAND residents are invited to bring their dogs along for a free pet health check around the borough next week.

The borough council’s enforcement staff have teamed up with the People’s Dispensary for Sick Animals to stage the events at four places, starting in Cleator Moor on Tuesday.

The initiative supports the Council’s aims to encourage responsible dog ownership. Helping dog owners to look after their dogs properly should reduce the number of stray dogs Council officers have to deal with.

Is your handsome hound as healthy and happy as can be? Come along to one of the events and get them a five point check covering behaviour, companionship, diet, environment and health.

A small range of FREE preventive services are available including microchipping and nail clipping. These services are free of charge but if you would like to make a donation, all money will be used to help the PDSA continue helping vets treat pets. The events, which all run from 10am until 5pm, are at the following locations:

  • ·         Tue 9 June - Cleator Moor Market Square
  • ·         Wed 10 June - St Bees Foreshore Car Park
  • ·         Thursday 11 - June Castle Park, Whitehaven
  • ·         Friday 12 June - Egremont Market Place, Main street, Egremont

Coun Dave Banks, Copeland’s portfolio holder for Customers and Communities, said: “We are delighted that the PDSA’s experts are offering these events, and that we are able to support them. It’s really important that dogs are happy and healthy, and I know a free check over will be very much appreciated by lots of people.”

PDSA Head Vet Nurse, Sue Bartlett, added: “We know people love their pets and want the best for them, which is why we’re here to help. By offering free, friendly advice and support, we can help owners make small changes that can make a big difference to the health and happiness of pets around Copeland.
