New telecommunications technology was not seen by the majority as having a significant detrimental effect on visual amenity and their necessity and potential was widely recognised (Q99).

The two parish Councils who made comments on this section do feel that such technology is having a detrimental impact on visual amenity and balancing the two is a recognised problem.

Generally, it was felt that the planning system could and should assist in crime prevention by introducing new design policies for development (Q100). Only one consultee did not support this.

Several respondents stated that there were facilities lacking in the Borough (101), including; swimming pool in Millom, Bowling Astroturf, Cinema in Millom, Water sports.

One consultee felt that there was no further need for facilities as they served to encourage vandalism.

Access to facilities was raised as an issue. It was also further identified that there was a particular problem for rural and village recreational facilities.

Additional Community Services and Facilities Issues (Q102)

      • Liaison with HMP Haverigg with regard to development and plans

      • Specific policy to protect and promote services in rural settlements

      • Recreation open space should be given strong protection by plan policies.
Important that any recreational space is not included in definition
