The major strategic site in Copeland is situated adjacent to, the A595 trunk road, 2 miles to the south of Whitehaven. The Science Park, fully serviced and based around a former mansion house, has been successful in attracting new commercial and technology/research enterprises.

BNF Sellafield

Sellafield is a large complex nuclear chemical facility and the site covers an area of approximately 4 square kilometres. It has been operational since the 1940's and is one of the largest nuclear engineering centres in the world.

Decommissioning has been underway since the 1980's and there is still much to do. Recently the Nuclear Decommissioning Agency (NDA) established its headquarters at the Westlakes Science & Technology Park in Copeland and the jobs associated with the NDA are very welcome in the area.

Whitehaven Area

The site is 2 miles east of Whitehaven at Moresby Parks, adjacent to the Whitehaven Golf Course and offers the bonus of splendid views of the Western Lake District Fells.

The site is fully serviced with on site car parking and could accommodate a certain amount of non-food retails units.

Haig Enterprise ParkHaig Enterprise Park

The Park is situated on the site of the former Haig Colliery, half a mile from Whitehaven Town Centre and just above the South Harbour development. It is home to several service-based companies and has a good range of small to medium sized units starting from 390 sq.ft. at £81 per month.

Sneckyeat RoadSneckyeat Road, Hensingham

A small well established estate in the Hensingham area of Whitehaven, and next to the West Cumberland Hospital. The majority of the units are small to medium sized in blocks of terraces.

Managed by North West Development Agency (NDWA), recent work has improved security on the site, with units ranging from 500 sq. ft. to 2500 sq.ft. is almost fully developed and an expansion of 1.7 hectares is planned.

Red Lonning

A small estate on the eastern side of Whitehaven with 0.6 ha available for development.

Frizington Area

A small rural site to the south of the village of Frizington, close to the main settlements of Whitehaven, Workington and the Sellafield industrial complex. There are a number of small units available from £45 per week, with approximately 1 hectare still undeveloped.

Cleator Moor

A well established estate managed at Cleator Moor, which is located 4 miles to the east of Whitehaven. There are several small to medium sized businesses on the site and a variety of units available for rent.

A small area of land is available for new build, with a larger area to the north allocated for further expansion.

Pheonix Enterprose CentrePhoenix Enterprise Centre

Phoenix Enterprise Centre is situated in the commercial heart of Cleator Moor, adjacent to the town’s large market square. The Enterprise Centre, which was the former Cleator Moor Co-op, is called Phoenix House.

Phoenix Court, the business centre, evolved from what was originally Cleator Moor Workspace which was opened in 1986. Since 1992 the development has grown substantially with the conversion of a second building into three floors of larger offices. The courtyard development was concluded in 1994 with the conversion of the remaining building to high quality office accommodation.

Cleator Mills, Cleator

An allocated site of around 2.8 hectares, adjacent to the Kangol Factory to the south of Cleator Moor. Approved use is general and light industry/storage and distribution plus leisure. Part of the site may be mixed with housing

Egremont Area

This site is situated on the southern outskirts of Egremont, on the A595(T), 6 miles south of Whitehaven with easy access to the A66 fifteen miles to the north.

The market town of Egremont has a population of 7000 and the estate is one of the closest to the British Nuclear Fuels plant at Sellafield, that lies just 5 miles to the south.

A former iron ore mine close to the Sellafield Nuclear Plant in an isolated rural location but near to the A595 trunk road. available for general/light/special industrial use, together with storage and distribution.

Seascale Area

A small rural site in the village of Seascale one mile from the Sellafield Nuclear Complex.

A number of small units are completed and occupied, with a further 0.7 hectares allocated for expansion.

Greengarth Business ParkGreengarth Business Park

Office accommodation set in 12 acres of parkland located less than 5 miles from Sellafield.

Millom Area

Devonshire Road Industrial Estate, MillomDevonshire Road, Millom

This is another well established industrial site, built after the closure of the local ironworks. It is situated on the southern outskirts of Millom, within easy reach of Barrow-in-Furness and Sellafield and is 35 miles from the M6. There are a variety of small to medium sized units available to rent from the North West Development Agency.

Millom Pier, Millom

This is a 3 hectare local employment site overlooking the Duddon Estuary with B1, B2, B8 and leisure and tourism use. It is recognised that the Millom Pier employment allocation is a particularly sensitive site in terms of nature conservation and an Environmental Impact Assessment will be required as an integral part of any development proposals

Millom Road, Millom

A small local employment site close to Millom town centre and containing a number of small companies. A small area of land available and 3 small advance units for rent.

Haverigg Tannery, Haverigg

This is a 2.5 hectare site consisting of former tannery buildings converted for service sector employment use.
