Situated on the Western Lake District coast and with a population of 25,500, the Georgian town of Whitehaven is the headquarters of Copeland Borough Council. It is a growing tourist destination with a superbly regenerated harbour area and is the start of the Coast to Coast cycle route. The major industry is the nearby Sellafield nuclear power complex, with which a large proportion of the population has links.

Other major employers in the town include the West Cumberland Hospital, United Utilities Call Centre and local manufacturing companies.

FrizingtonFrizington

Frizington is a former mining village north east of Cleator Moor on the main road between Egremont (to the south) and Cockermouth - about 10 miles inland from the coast. The population is 1,700, it has a long main street which houses an array of small shops and businesses as well as a small industrial estate.

With a population of around 7,000 the small town of Cleator Moor nestles in the Western fells of the Lake District close to the unspoilt Ennerdale Valley. It is about 3 miles from Whitehaven and is centrally placed to access local industry in West Cumbria, as well as the Sellafield Nuclear Site. It has access to the M6 motorway via the A5086 and A66.

Around the recently refurbished market square there are a number of managed workspaces giving an opportunity to start or expand your business. In addition there are also industrial units available on the nearby Leconfield industrial estate.

Egremont is a small market town, overlooked by the remains of a Norman castle and.with a population of about 7,000.

The Egremont Regeneration Partnership has been set up to help regenerate the town with funding from the Northwest Regional Development Agency.

This has, and continues to assist and enhance business competitiveness in the area and facilitate the exchange of good business practice through the creation of a local business network.

Seascale is a small attractive seaside town with a population of around 1700. The Sellafield nuclear site is situated about a mile north of the town and it is heavily dependent on the site for employment although a small number of rural workshops are available.

The town of Millom, which is in the south of Copeland, is a former industrial town set in an attractive environment of sea, sand and mountains. It has a population of 6,700 and is 33 miles away from Whitehaven and about one hour’s drive from the motorway. It is a market town initiative town and has several schemes in place which aim to regenerate the area.

A Business Network Centre has recently been established which has a range of facilities to support local enterprise and start up as well as existing businesses

There are also well designed industrial units in the area that suit business needs.
