Overview
Copeland Borough Council is committed to helping businesses develop in Copeland and has a target of helping to create 5000 new jobs in the period from 2002-2012. In 2006-07, 1422 new full-time jobs were created which gives a total of 3398 overall.
This puts us well on our way to the 2012 target. This success has led not only to an increase in the number of jobs locally, but also growth in the population. This comes after a ten year period of decline.
However, we know that in the future jobs will decline on the Sellafield site so we need to keep the focus on providing new and alternative job opportunities. It is only by working with other agencies and bodies that we can create these jobs, and diversify and strengthen the Copeland economy.
In Copeland we are lucky to benefit from an urban regeneration company, West Lakes Renaissance; a government funded and locally led delivery partnership through which the Council works with the private sector and other partners, the West Cumbria Strategic Forum and many other bodies, organisations and charities that we work with to improve our economy.
From the smallest charity to the biggest, most strategic, organisations, it is important that we are all working together to make Copeland the place to do business. We are united in that aim.
