Brahms’ German Requiem Concert

Printer-friendly versionPDF version
Cockermouth Harmonic Society will perform Brahms’ A German Requiem on 27 January 2018, in Christ Church, Cockermouth. The concert will start at 7.30pm. Composed and first performed in 1867, this major choral work came into being in the same year that the Cockermouth choir was formed. Taking words from psalms and other Bible passages, the music is dramatic and moving, having a wide range of impacts on the listener. The choir will also sing four Bruckner motets and Rheinberger’s Stabat Mater. These haunting and simple works contrast well with the intensity of the Brahms. Ian Wright, the choir’s new music director, will conduct the choir and the soloists, Charlotte Jackson, soprano, and Paul Im Thurn, bass-baritone. Ian Hare will play the organ accompaniment.
