Rosehill Theatre is located one mile to the north of Whitehaven.
It is a small, unique and charming theatre providing a
varied programme of events
throughout the year, it has accessible facilities, induction loop
and guide dogs are welcome.
Rosehill Theatre was the creation of Sir Nicholas Sekers, who
emigrated from Hungary in 1937 and founded the West Cumberland Silk
Mills at Hensingham, Whitehaven (which became Sekers Fabrics
Ltd).
Theatre, music, film, children's shows and workshops are all
included in the listing. The Theatre has a Bistro that is open on
film and performance nights from 6.00pm, and serves coffee and cake
during the intervals.
As part of a development scheme, part funded by the National
Lottery, improvements have included disabled access in the foyer,
new lighting and sound equipment, a new heating and ventilation
system for the auditorium, the provision of a projection box and
film equipment, the re-wiring of the premises and a computerised
box office system.
The National Lottery funding also made it possible to complete
the development of the Rosehill Barn adjacent to the theatre. Work
was completed in 1998 and the full facilities are now in use for
rehearsals, performances, classes, exhibitions, weddings, seminars,
conferences and other functions.
Rosehill Barn is the perfect setting for: Weddings,
Christenings, Parties & Celebrations and Conferences - large
and small.
Highlights of the Season included: Apples, a Northern Stage and
Company of Angels production, and a range of films.
