Welcome to the digital switchover section of the Copeland Borough Council. This section is designed to give you the details of what will happen as the borough switches to digital only television. This page will also point you in the direction of other useful sources of information.

Whitehaven Switchover

Much of the borough has already switched to digital only television, when the Whitehaven transmitter (located at Bigrigg) was converted in October and November 2008. However all Copeland residents will still have to make some changes to ensure that they are able to continue to watch television.

Retuning

When this switchover takes place, homes in Copeland that have already switched to digital only television will have to retune their digital receivers. This is because some channel numbers and positions will be moving following the Caldbeck switchover.

It should be quite simple to retune your receiver. Simply follow the manufacturers instructions for your box or television. However if you do have difficulties you can get further information from Digital UK.

Millom Switchover

The only area of Copeland that will not be switching to digital only television when Caldbeck changes is the far south of the borough.

Any households that receive Granada television rather than Border television (most likely via the Millom Park transmitter), will switch over later in the year.

The Millom Park switchover will take place from 4 November to 2 December 2009. The switchover will take place in two stages, with BBC Two analogue being switched off on 4 November, and the remainder of analogue channels being switched off on 2 December.

Once this switchover is complete all households in Copeland should be receiving digital only television.

Caldbeck Switchover - Parton and St Bees

This switchover has now been completed, and anyone who received television from the Caldbeck transmitter will now only be able to receive digital television. Analogue television signals have now been switched off.

This switchover also impacted on those in the Parton and St Bees areas and anyone else who receives their television from the Caldbeck transmitter or any of its relay transmitters.

Switchover Help Scheme

As with all other stages of the switchover, eligible residents can receive help with to change to digital only television from the Switchover Help Scheme. Visit www.helpscheme.co.uk or call 0800 40 85 900.
