Initiated in 1998 by Arts Officers from Allerdale and Copeland Borough Councils and in partnership with rural communities. Initially called West Cumbria Rural Touring Scheme, the aim of the was to make the arts socially, geographically, economically and physically accessible to rural communities in West Cumbria. This project is now known as 'Arts Out West'.

'Arts Out West' brings professional performing arts into the heart of rural communities in West Cumbria.

The success of the scheme has built a vibrant network of promoters and an increasing number of venues, this expands the range of performances, workshops and outreach available.

As well as organising performances throughout West Cumbria Arts Out West provides workshops and outreach projects for schools and community groups.
