The Arts Department is able to offer advice and support for a range of cultural activities. The Department adopts a variety of approaches to develop and support community, amateur and professional cultural practice within the Borough.

 

The Department offers guidance in the design of, or fundraising for art events and projects, we also design and deliver professional and sustainable developmental projects with partner organisations.

 

Current Projects

Pop-up Shop

Pop- up Shop is a programme of activity being delivered by the Arts Development Team in Copeland  to enliven the urban centres (Whitehaven, Cleator moor, Egremont and Millom), making them a more attractive and exciting place to live, work and visit and encourage local communities to spend more time populating it. Pop-up Shop will develop audiences for existing activity and attract the highest quality national and international artists to deliver a programme of new work with the aim of making Copeland a vibrant and exciting place to live work and visit.

Cinema

Rosehill Theatre offers a film programme from 'blockbuster' titles to Arthouse, and a variety of shows, guests and drama.

Exhibitions

The Beacon Museum - located on the harbourside, Whitehaven has a municipal art gallery with a remit to show both traditional and contemporary art.
 

Lowes Court Gallery on the Main Street in Egremont shows a range of arts and crafts from local practitioners.
