Overview and Scrutiny wants your view on the Proposed Closure of Whitehaven Magistrates Court and Whitehaven County Court

Copeland Borough Council’s External Overview and Scrutiny Committee (OSC) will be considering the recent Ministry of Justice Consultation Paper “Proposal on the provision of court services in HMCS Cumbria and Lancashire”.

The paper proposes to close Whitehaven’s County Court and Magistrate’s Court and move court services to Workington Magistrates Court. The OSC wants to look at how the proposals will impact on people and services in the Borough.

Councillor Geoff Garrity, Chair of the External OSC said;

“The proposals outlined by the Ministry of Justice will have an impact on service users across Copeland and the consultation document raises a number of questions. I want to hear from people and businesses affected by these proposals and I would urge them to get in touch.”

The meeting will take place at 5pm on Thursday 19 August 2010 in the Bainbridge Room at the Copeland Centre.
