Consultation on Preferred Options for the LDF Core Strategy and Development Management Policies DPD

The Council approved a Preferred Options consultation document for the Core Strategy and Development Management Policies DPD.  The consultation period for this document is now over and the Council is currently considering the responses received.

The Preferred Options Consultation Document builds upon the ideas that were discussed in the LDF Issues and Options consultation that took place between 28 May and 10 July 2009, and is the second stage in producing two of the main Development Plan Documents (DPDs) which will form the Council's LDF.

The Core Strategy provides the key strategic policies for the Borough and indicates the locations where the Council expects development to take place, while the Development Policies DPD provides the details that will be taken into account when planning applications are considered.

A Sustainability Appraisal accompanies the Preferred Options document.  The purpose of this Appraisal is to anticipate the impacts of the Preferred Options on the environment, society and economy of Copeland and ultimately identify whether the Council’s preferred approach moves Copeland towards or away from greater sustainability in the long term.

(Please note that we are not seeking to allocate sites at this stage – the Site Allocations DPD will be produced later, but any sites will need to conform with the policies in the Core Strategy).

The Preferred Options Document and Sustainability Appraisal were available for comment from Monday 10 May to Friday 30 July 2010.

Copeland Local Development Framework Preferred Options document– CORRECTION TO PARAGRAPH 4.2.6

Following the recent publication of the Copeland LDF Preferred Options Consultation document, it has come to our attention that there is an error in paragraph 4.2.6 (page 38) of the document.  This paragraph currently reads:

4.2.6 - The British Geological Survey is to carry out a 'Stage 2' high level geological screening to identify any area of the borough that is suitable for repository siting.  This will be followed by a consultation on screening results, before a final report is published.

This should be replaced by:

4.2.6 - The British Geological Survey is to carry out a 'Stage 2' high level geological screening to identify any area of the borough that is obviously unsuitable for repository siting.  This will be followed by a consultation on screening results, before a final report is published.

All respondents to the Preferred Options Consultation will be notified of future consultations and kept informed of the progress of the LDF.

If you would like to speak to someone about the Preferred Options document, please contact a member of staff in the Planning Policy Unit on 01946 598351.
