Welcome to SASRA Music & Arts 2010 - 2011

SASRA Music & Arts have been promoting classical music concerts since the early 1950's, the programme of concerts we have arranged for the 2010-2011 Season will be our 57th consecutive year.

Programme Preview September 2010 to March 2011

We are delighted to present locally yet another season of high quality classical music at reasonable prices.  This year will be the fifth occasion we have been part of the 'Orchestra Live' Cumbria Concert Series, in conjunction with four other music societies in the County.  The Northern Chamber Orchestra, directed by Nicholas Ward, who gave our first concert in 2006, will be joined by the accomplished pianist Martin Roscoe, who has also played for SASRA Music & Arts before.

18 March 2011 The Atrium String Quartet String Quartets by Haydn, Shostakovich and Beethoven

The Berkley Ensemble (violins, viola, cello, clarinet, bassoon and horn) start off the season with an attractive programme which includes Beethoven's tuneful Septet.  In the third concert in this varied season, we welcome five brass players (two trumpets, trombone, tuba and horn) from the North East - Prince Bishop's Brass.  Their concert will consist of a wide variety of styles and pieces and there will be two original works for brass quintet.

Sam Haywood is another 'old' friend of the Society and he returns with Arisa Fujita and Richard bayliss, who are also known to our audiences in a programme which contains Brahms' wonderful Horn Trio.

It is always a pleasure to hear pupils from Chetham's Music School in Manchester.  We don't yet know who the performers are or what they will be playing, but we can be assured of an inspiring concert by a group of talented young people.

The Atrium are a superb string quartet who gave a brilliant recital for Cockermouth Music Society last season and are highly recommended.
