Grants and support available to businesses and individuals
A wide range of support is available to businesses and
individuals in Copeland, particularly to businesses that are
starting up, creating new jobs or moving to new premises.

University of Cumbria
Copeland Borough Council is working in partnership with the
University of Cumbria to
provide the following support to businesses:
Employer Assistance
- We are offering employer assistance of up to £700 to help local
businesses access student and graduate skills through the
University of Cumbria's Business Support Services.
Graduate Recruitment Service
- Helping Cumbrian businesses to source high level skills and
address retention issues.
- Administered through the University of Cumbria. The
subsidy of £700 can be claimed after the first eight weeks of the
new graduate's employment.
Business Placements Programmes
- Helping Cumbrian businesses to find reliable, skilled students
for between 2 and 13 weeks to help complete business projects.
- Administered through the University of Cumbria. The
subsidy will cover 50% of the allowance paid to the
student/graduate up to a maximum of £700.
Get Qualified
- Subsidised training courses for employees or volunteers in
sports organisations in Cumbria.
- Administered through the University of Cumbria. The
subsidy will increase the amount covered from 40% to 50% up to £700
per company per annum.
Knowledge Transfer Partnerships
- Knowledge Transfer Partnerships are funded by a government
grant, which enables businesses to employ a high calibre graduate
to work on a project of between one and three years duration with
the help of expertise from the University.
- Administered through the University of Cumbria. The
subsidy of £700 will help cover the initial set-up costs of a
Knowledge Transfer Partnership.
Backing Business in Copeland
This comprehensive initiative in partnership with West Cumbria Development Agency, is
available to established businesses across Copeland with fewer than
250 employees. It consists of a range of support including in
depth advice on matters such as financial management, marketing and
recommendations on how to take your business forward. Grants
are available up to a maximum of £1,500.
Festivals and Events
- Small marketing grants for new events and tourism related
marketing projects for the Copeland area.
- Requires details of a project outline, budget and feedback
report from supported events/projects.
