On May 7th we will be running an unprecedented number of elections in Copeland. It’s going to be a really exciting time for the borough and local residents can get involved by joining Copeland Borough Council officers on the evening of 7th May as Verification and Count Assistants.
Help will be needed at the Whitehaven Sports Centre for the verification of all elections and the Parliamentary Count from 9.30pm on Thursday 7th May.
The Verification/Count Assistants will verify and count the votes cast in the borough’s Polling Stations and postal votes. They will be able to see democracy in action once the Polling Stations close and the ballot boxes enter the hall, and it’s a great opportunity to be part of this exciting event, seeing local and national government taking shape. Residents can take part alone, with family or come along with friends.
It is a paid position and anyone aged 16 and over can take part in the verification and count provided they are eligible to work in the UK and not affiliated or related to a candidate. They must be prepared to work overnight and into the early hours of the morning.

With fewer than 90 days to go before the elections, Copeland Borough Council is also reminding residents to make sure they are registered to vote. Register online at www.gov.uk/register-to-vote
