Launched in November 2012, "Haven Sent" has members of all ages.  And if you think it is all jam and Jerusalem, then you might be surprised to know that the groups 2013 programme has included "Spring clean your make-up", "A guide to the unconventional corsage", "The good life - grow your own fruit & veg", "Hips don't lie - belly dancing basics", and yes, also "Jam & Jerusalem - jam making & tasting".

The initial idea to launch the new WI came from Claire Dobie, age 30, from Whitehaven.  “I had read about younger WI’s setting up in cities to offer a way for working women/mums etc  to get involved in something different and meet other local women and thought why can’t we have something like that here?” said Claire, who is President of the group.

“With advice and help from the WI advisers in our county, we set up the first initial meeting and it’s all gone from there with lots of hard work and great ideas from our fantastic committee and members.”

The group currently meets on the first Wednesday of the month, 7.30pm at Whitehaven Cricket Club (with the exception of the August and Sept 2013 meetings which take place at Whitehaven United Reformed Church Hall.)
