The annual canvass to compile the next Register of Electors, also known as the voters' roll, will start on 8 August 2016.
The canvass will start early August when Household Enquiry Forms will be sent to every property in Copeland. When you receive the form, the quickest and easiest way to respond is online at www.elecreg.co.uk/copeland. To enable you to do so you will need your two part security code that is printed on your form. When you respond, you should let us know whether the information on the form is correct. If it isn't, you can update the information online to add or remove people from the form by following the instructions on screen. If there are no changes to the information on the form, you can also respond by calling our automated response service on 0808 284 1462 or by texting your two part security code to 07786 209362. If you are unable to use any of the methods above, please complete the form and post it back to us using the pre-paid envelope provided.
If you don't complete the form promptly, we will send out reminder forms. If we don't receive a response after sending a number of reminders, we will also carry out a personal visit, to make sure we can get a response. The household enquiry form, is just that, an enquiry form. If any new people have been added to a household enquiry form, they must now register to vote themselves; they can now go online to register themselves at www.gov.uk/register-to-vote or they will be sent an invitation to register form. To register to vote you now have to provide your National Insurance Number and date of birth.
You MUST return your Household Enquiry Form - Don't Delay.

Following the annual canvass, the new register will be published on 1st December 2016. You can check your registration by calling Electoral Services or by asking at reception at The Market Hall, Market Place, Whitehaven, CA28 7JG
The next scheduled elections are the Cumbria County Council Elections due to be held on Thursday 4 May 2017. You will only be able to vote if your name appears in the Register of Electors which lists all those eligible to vote in the various elections.
