Copeland Borough Council Brownfield Land Register

Introduction

The Government has introduced a new requirement which came into force in April 2017 for all Local Authorities to prepare a Brownfield Land Register.  The Council has a requirement to prepare and publish the Brownfield Land Register by 31st December 2017.  The Brownfield Land Register has now been published and can be viewed below.

What is the Brownfield Register

The Brownfield Register will provide a up-to-date information on Brownfield sites (Previously Developed) Copeland Borough Council consider to be approiate for residential development.  The Council used its Strategic Housing Land Availability Assessment (SHLAA), National Land Use Database (NLUD) and the Site Allocations consultation to help identify Brownfield sites in the borough.

The Brownfield Register comes in two parts;

  • Part 1 is a list of all brownfield sites appropriate for residential development, regardless of their status
  • Part 2 includes those sites in Part 1 that the Council considers would be suitable for a grant of 'permission in principle'.
