With less than five months to go until the opening of the new West Cumberland Hospital, a new video gives people the chance to look inside the new £90 million state-of-the-art building.
The video shows the exterior of the building which is situated directly behind the existing hospital as well inside departments such as outpatients, A&E, maternity and the intensive care unit.
The hospital, run by North Cumbria University Hospitals NHS Trust, suffered a setback after a fire caused extensive damage to the new Energy Centre in January 2015. The new hospital building did not suffer any damage but was left without any source of electrical power or heating.
Since then, the Trust has made good progress in developing plans and options to re-establish permanent heat and power supplies, with a new opening date of October 2015.
Les Morgan, director of redevelopment at the Trust, said: “After the fire, all of our staff picked themselves back up again and showed a huge amount of determination to get back on track as quickly as possible. We are delighted that we are only months away from opening the doors to our patients and this is a real testament to the hard work and commitment of our staff.
“As the new video shows, we have a fantastic, modern hospital which is something for us all to celebrate. We look forward to announcing dates for public open days in the coming months to allow members of the local community to come and have closer look at their new hospital.”
