Case A
Mrs A stole over £13,000 in Housing and Council Tax Benefit. She
failed to declare her occupational pension along with bank accounts
that contained excess capital. She was ordered by the Magistrates
Court to do 150 hours community service.
Case B
As part of a joint investigation with the Department of Work and
Pensions it was found that Mr B failed to declare starting full
time work. He claimed over £16,000 in Housing Benefit, Council Tax
Benefit and Income Support. He was sentenced by the Magistrates
Court to 28 days in prison.
Case C
The Magistrates Court sentenced Miss C to a 24 months
Supervisory punishment order and to carry out 240 Hours Community
Service for claiming over £8,000 in Housing and Council Tax Benefit
that she wasn’t entitled to. She had been working and had not
declared this to the Council.
The people in the examples shown above also have to repay ALL
the money they have stolen from us. They also now have a CRIMINAL
RECORD.
