We are in the process of recovering from a major cyber-attack. This is affecting some of our systems and our priority is to ensure that our frontline services are operating as far as practicable. We are currently experiencing a high number of calls and ask residents to only contact us with urgent queries during this time. Any non-urgent queries can be sent via email to email@example.com. We would also ask that residents and customers be cautious when opening emails appearing to be in relation to invoices from council officers. These are cyber-attack generated and often include the subject line of ‘new invoice, invoice number or payment reminder’ followed by a series of numbers and symbols. These are not legitimate council emails and if in doubt, do not open it.
There has been a delay in the processing of personal searches and official searches due to the cyber-attack. This may have affected those who wish to sell and purchase properties. We are now able to access Geographical Information System data, which has enabled us to create an interim search procedure. We have also reinstated, as far as practicable, our system for personal search companies to access information. These developments have allowed us to begin processing searches, which we will continue to do over the coming days. Although we now have access to some data, our interim procedures are labour intensive and until we fully regain access to our systems, searches will continue to be delayed.
Payments can be made via our website, and we’d like to assure residents that this process is as secure as it has always been.
Our phone lines are not currently operating as normal due to the recent cyber-attack – during this time our out of hours emergency response number for issues relating to dangerous structures, homelessness, flooding response and sandbag requests is 0151 295 6524.
We’d like to inform customers, including trade waste customers, who were expecting an invoice from Copeland Council on or around October 1 that this invoice will be delayed. We apologise for the delay which has been caused by the recent cyber attack and we will keep customers fully informed.
